The San Diego Ghost Bus Tour

A coffin on wheels, dear guest. Considerably better upholstered than the ones our subjects are resting in.

Two hours. Twenty-five haunted sites across three neighborhoods. We go inside four of them, and you will do almost none of the walking.

Pick a date, see live availability, book in about a minute. Free cancellation when you book direct, and no booking fees.

Four Doors That Open For Us

Everyone else admires these buildings from the sidewalk. We have keys, and rather better stories about what is behind them.

Sherman Heights

Built for a spiritualist. He would be delighted to know we still cannot explain it.

Villa Montezuma Mansion

A Victorian oddity full of stained glass and unanswered questions. We go in, and the house tends to make its own case.

Gaslamp Quarter

A gambler checked in, cheated at cards, and has never got round to checking out.

The Horton Grand Hotel

By gun, by drink, by cheat, bye bye. The gunslinger's room is upstairs, and the staff have their own stories about it.

Gaslamp Quarter

A hospital, once. A great many people arrived here and did not leave under their own power.

The Davis-Horton House

San Diego's oldest surviving structure downtown, and a former hospital and morgue. We go inside this one after dark.

Old Town

The city paved a road through it. The residents were not consulted, and some of them are still under it.

El Campo Santo Cemetery

An 1849 burial ground that the street took a piece of. Markers in the sidewalk show where the graves still are.

Why ride instead of walk

Bring Your Camera and Your Courage. Leave the Walking Shoes.

Ghost hunting is best done seated, in a climate-controlled vehicle, with someone else driving.

01

Three neighborhoods in one night

Old Town, the Gaslamp and Sherman Heights. No walking tour in this city can cover that ground, because no one can walk it in two hours.

02

Almost no walking

You are seated between stops. The only walking you do is from the curb to the door, which is the sort of ghost hunting we recommend.

03

Twenty-three seats

Small enough that you can hear every word and ask every question. Nobody is straining at the back of a crowd of sixty.

04

No actors, no jump scares

Nobody in a mask is going to chase you. We do not create or employ ghosts, so anything that happens happens without our help.

05

Legend labeled as legend

Where the record and the story disagree, we give you both and tell you which is which. History is fickle. We attribute rather than adjudicate.

06

Locally owned since 2006

San Diego's first local ghost tour, run by the same people, in the same city, for twenty years.

Local versus national

A Company, or a Call Center

One of them is standing at the curb at seven o'clock. The other has a queue.

Booking with us

  • The owner answers the text. Same number, every night.
  • Free cancellation and no booking fees when you book direct.
  • Indoor access at four locations, which is ours and not rented.
  • If a departure cannot run, you hear it from a person, by text.

Booking through a reseller

  • You may pay considerably more for the same seat on the same bus.
  • Changes and refunds route through a third party, on their schedule.
  • The company you reach is not the company running the tour.
  • Placement in their listings is bought, not earned.

Before you board

Questions the Living Tend to Ask

How much walking is there?

Very little. You are seated on the bus between locations, and the walking you do is from the curb into each building and back. This is the tour to pick if distance or pace is a concern.

Do things happen? How intense is it?

Eerie things do happen at several of these locations. We and our groups have experienced them. It is rare, so there is no guarantee, and you might get lucky. We do not create or employ ghosts, so nothing is staged and there are no jump scares. Spooky and creepy are better words for it than scary. Bring a camera.

Can I bring kids?

Recommended for guests 13 and up. Children who no longer need a car seat are allowed on this tour, and whether it suits your child is your call. If they are under 10, text us first and we will talk it through honestly.

Is the bus wheelchair accessible?

Not at this time. If mobility is a concern, text us before you book and we will tell you exactly what the boarding and the indoor stops involve so you can decide.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Seats are limited and departures sell out. Book online and you will get an email confirming your seats, then a second email with meeting details once the departure is confirmed. For a waitlist, text 619-255-6170.

What if the tour cannot run?

You will hear from us directly by text, with your options laid out. Book direct and cancellation is free, with no booking fee in the first place. If you booked through a third party, their cancellation terms apply and their refunds move on their schedule.
